BK9103總線耦合器將PROFINET RT與模塊化、可擴展的電子接線端子連接起來。一個單元由一個總線耦合器、1到64個端子（255個帶K總線擴展）和一個端部端子組成。
總線耦合器識別它們所連接的端子，并自動將輸入和輸出分配給過程圖像的單詞。BK9103總線耦合器支持10 Mbit/s和100 Mbit/s以太網。通過普通RJ45連接器連接。IP地址在DIP開關上設置（偏移到可自由選擇的起始地址）。在具有DHCP（用于將邏輯IP地址分配給物理節點地址[MAC-ID]的服務）的網絡中，總線耦合器從DHCP服務器獲得其IP地址。
BK9103包含一個3端口交換機。兩個端口在RJ45連接器上進行外部操作，可以使用。因此，I/O站可以配置為線路拓撲，而不是經典的星形拓撲。在許多應用中，這大大減少了布線工作量和布線成本。兩個耦合器之間的zui大距離為100米。多達20個BK9103總線耦合器是可級聯的，因此可以實現2公里的線路長度。
